What the federal text says

Loss of a foot, leg, hand, or arm — or an impairment that interferes with grasping, holding, or operating controls — means the driver is not qualified under the standard rule, UNLESS FMCSA grants a Skill Performance Evaluation (SPE) certificate. The SPE process evaluates whether the driver can safely operate the vehicle with the impairment, typically including a road evaluation, and involves the prospective employer's vehicle.

What that means for you

The standard says no; the SPE certificate is the federal 'prove it in the truck' door, and drivers hold cards through it today. It is a process with paperwork and a driving evaluation, measured in weeks to months.

What moves the outcome

You will need your prospective employer's cooperation (their vehicle is part of the evaluation) and specialist documentation of the impairment's stability. The kit contains the SPE packet contents and sequence.

Which mode is this?

This question is decided by the federal text itself. The verdict above is computed from the cited words — your examiner is bound by the same text.

Only a certified medical examiner on the National Registry can certify you. FreightVerdict reads the published federal standards — it does not certify, diagnose, or treat, and nothing here is medical advice.
